The Johnny Dodds' Black Bottom Stompers sessions of April of 1927 are very similar to the classic Louis Armstrong and his Hot Seven sessions of the same year. It is interesting to compare the Hot Seven's versions of Weary Blues, Wild Man Blues and Melancholy Blues to the recordings below. It is also interesting to hear the two great clarinet players of the 1920s, Barney Bigard (on tenor saxophone) and Johnny Dodds play together; throw in Louis Armstrong and Earl Hines and how can you go wrong?
